Livelihood Promotion

Rural Development Trust (RDT) has been promoted and enhanced rural livelihoods by implementing sustainable and resilient livelihood options. Through skill-building training, sustainable agricultural practices, and alternative income-generating activities, RDT has empowered farmers and rural communities to improve their economic stability while promoting environmental sustainability. The program has successfully integrated traditional knowledge with modern techniques to create long-term solutions for rural prosperity.

  1. Organic Farming: Training was provided to 250 farmers on organic farming practices, including soil fertility management, crop rotation, and natural pest control techniques. Farmers learned to produce chemical-free crops, ensuring better soil health and increased market value for their produce.
  2. Vermi-compost Preparation: A vital component of organic farming, vermi-composting training enabled farmers to create high-quality organic manure, reducing dependence on synthetic fertilizers while enhancing soil fertility and crop yield.
  3. Mithila Painting: Traditional Mithila art training was offered to artisans, especially women, to preserve cultural heritage and create income-generating opportunities through local and international markets.
  4. Goat Rearing: RDT facilitated goat-rearing training for 250 farmers, providing knowledge on breed selection, nutrition, disease management, and marketing strategies. This initiative has improved rural household incomes and nutritional security.
  5. Fish Cultivation: With 70 farmers trained in scientific fish farming techniques, including pond management, seed selection, and sustainable feed practices, fish cultivation has become a profitable venture for rural households.
  6. Millet Cultivation: To promote climate-resilient farming, 100 farmers were trained in millet cultivation. Millets, being drought-resistant and nutritionally rich, contribute to food security and sustainable agriculture.
  7. Oilseed Cultivation: Oilseed farming was promoted among 200 farmers to diversify income sources and enhance rural food security. Training included seed selection, organic pest control, and post-harvest management.

Other Resilient Livelihood Options RDT has also promoted various other sustainable livelihood activities to enhance economic resilience, including:
